I am doing a report on whether kids should be able to listen to Ipods and MP3 players in school. I want to hear what side of the debate you are on. please answer.
I personally am homeschooled and listen to classical music every day while studying. it keeps me cheerful and attentive and, according to the experts, is increasing the number of my brain cells. nonetheless I can see the dangers of allowing all the students to use music devices in traditional schools…
That's tricky. in high school, I sneaked my CD player into study hall and listened to it when reading Shakespeare or something, but you have to remember that iPods and MP3 players are easily tools with which kids can cheat. Also school should be a learning environment, teachers shouldn't be prison guards, checking every child's pocket and ear canals to make sure no kid has an MP3 player during a test. it would be incredibly hard to monitor the kids if they were allowed to have them during free periods and lunch breaks. Who's to say that Gary was listening to his teacher when she was trying to teach her class about the Industrial Revolution rather than watching American Pie 2 on his iPod?
Yes, kids should, but they should first gain a level of trust and have a clear conception of when and where it is appropriate. Sadly, most kids never will.
I think that if they want to listen to them at lunch then they can, but other than that.. no. I don't think they should be able to listen to them in study hall either
School is for listening to teaching, paying attention, concentrating and learning. I'd say as a general rule, it's not feasible that kids would do well in school while doing something else, so NO.
edit: I am, of course, referring to listening during class. Hallways, etc, that should be up to the individual.
i think that kis should be allowed to in the hallways and lunch etc..and then during tests or assignments some kids focuse better when listening to music… i know it sounds weird but some really do..but it should be controlled how often thay do it…it shouldn't be too regular!!
i think as long as it isnt in class…like if they were in the hallways or in the library or study hall or lunch….stuff like that…. it doesnt seem like a big deal….i know schools make a huge fuss over it but honestly, kids need to take a few minutes to mellow out to music now and then…its not gonna hurt em if they arent in class
